The hike along Denny Creek is typical of many northwest hikes. The trailhead is easily accessible, the destination is a scenic alpine lake surrounded by steep slopes and you will share this trail with tons of other people on a summer weekend. The route along the creek is rocky, steep, and unsheltered, leaving you exposed to the sun for most of the trip. There really isn't a destination here as the trail continues on to connect to many other trails. That doesn't mean there isn't plenty to see here however. Located just a couple of miles from the trailhead, Keekwulee and Snowshoe falls are an impressive site to see. Beautiful snow fields sweep down to the Melakwa Lake (4.5 miles) from Chair and Bryant Peaks, making a perfect photo opportunity. From here you can continue on to Tuscohatchie Lakes (7.4 miles), Kaleetan Lake (9.7 miles) and much, much more.

We had set out to hike up Mount Washington, but on getting near the exit saw that two thirds of the mountain were in cloud, so we decided to push onto Denny Creek. Navigating the snow covered road, we got a park a few hundred yards back from the turnoff to the trail head, then hiked down to the trail. There was lots of snow but some snow shoe hikers had obviously been through earlier, and left a fairly clear path along the trail. We crossed Denny Creek at the side of the old bridge, then hiked o.....

SNOW!!! Traction needed for the parking lot. trail was snowy and slushy. It is ealarsly hikable w/ out snow shoes and is crowd free. I saw about two hikers and I was the last one out so I had the trail to m self for a bit. I'm 5ཆ and the snow was at my knees at Denny Creek. Good times.

After a quick warm up hike to Franklin Falls, I continued to Melakwa Lake. The rain started about 2 miles into the hike and didn't let up. The trail was mostly rocks and mostly covered with water. The rocks were helpful to avoid walking through the water but also annoying as it made for a slow hike. Keekwulee Falls at 1.5 miles is a magnificent sight. The first three miles of the hike contain a mixture of both hiking through trees and across meadows. At about 3 miles there is a series of s.....
