Mount Townsend [1 hike report]

Mount Townsend Trail climbs steadily throughout its length. You'll reach Camp Windy after 2.5 miles, and shortly after the trail reaches a junction with Silver Lakes Trail. You'll find the summit to be long and flat and yielding amazing views. The Cascades are to the east, while Mount Deception and The Needles can be seen in the Olympic Range.

Driving Directions:
From Quilcene, 1 mile south on U.S. 101 to Penny Creek Road. Turn right and drive 1.5 miles to Big Quilcene Road. Stay to the left at this Y and drive 3 miles to the Forest Service boundary and paved Forest Service Road 27. Drive 9 miles to Forest Service Road 2760. Drive 1 mile to the trailhead at the end of the road.

Excellent hike with fantastic views. It's a very steady and steep trail. About 3 of the 4 miles is 20% grade. It's also a 3000 foot elevation change. We could see downtown Seattle, most of the tall mountains, and Vancouver Island. If you're looking for a birds-eye view, this hike is for you.

Drive from hwy 101 is mixture of dirt and pavement (mostly paved). Pavement has a number of holes and dips, keep your speed down to avoid surprises. Parking is a bit limited, you may a.....
