Mount Fremont Lookout [3 hike reports]
Washington > Mt Rainier > Sunrise Pictures | Trailhead Location | Hike Reports

The hike to the Mount Fremont Lookout travels entirely through meadows, and as long as the weather is good you can expect grand views. Mount Fremont is an easy trail to navigate and gains a mere 1,200 feet in about three miles. Mount Fremont Trail leaves Sunrise Visitor Center and climbs to Sourdough Ridge. From here Mount Rainier will appear CLOSE and take up much of the southern horizon. You will pass Frozen Lake at 1.5 miles as the trail encounters a large, signed junction. Mount Fremont Trail heads north along the rocky ridge, flattens, and then drops to the lookout. The lookout was built in the 1930s and although it's hard to take your eyes off whats right in front of you (Rainier), the Cascades and Olympics will call to you from a distance.

Mount Fremont Lookout - by freespirit444Saturday, July 24, 2010
This was an awesome, perfectly clear day for this hike. I read different hike reports and heard it was 5 miles and 6 miles. The markers up at Sunrise indicate it is 2.2 miles from the visitor center to the Mount Fremont Trailhead and then another 1.3 miles to the lookout (which is super awesome by the way)! The climb is steady but up and very rocky at the end. Drop offs to the side but little man (7) wasn't even a worry. Younger and you may want to hold a hand! The views from the very .....

Mount Fremont Lookout - by AJTrekker08Saturday, September 12, 2009
Got to the trail head about 10 am Saturday morning on a beautifully sunny and clear day. The parking lot was pretty full when we got there and there were quite a few people along the trail. The trail was in great shape, everything was really dry out there. Frozen Lake was not so frozen. Hiking along Mt Fremont we saw a herd of mountain goats down in the valley. As you are hiking to the lookout tower, the backdrop of the cascades is quite spectacular. Most of the hike is with Mt Rainier in .....

Mount Fremont Lookout - by busmonkeyFriday, September 11, 2009
One of the premiere hikes I have found in my lifetime. Not a sweat covered effort needed on this one, but the payback is a hundredfold for 'the Mountain' watches over your every step. This time, on Sept 11th, we saw 18 goats in the valley east of the Lookout. Other times we've heard coyotes in the valley, elk were present and a deer was on the trail.
The flowers were overbloomed, the trail was groomed for an easy walk in the Park. We came across a lot of hikers this time. Try .....
