My first time to the Olympic Peninsula and my first stop was at Hurricane Ridge. You don't even have to hike up to the top of the hill to get an amazing view of the Olympic mountains, but you can see the Strait de Juan Fuca from the top of the mountain, and you get a better view of Mt Olympus. The elevation gain was decent, a good heart pumping short hike. There were a lot of flies out that were annoying, but also a lot of wildflowers which coupled with the amazing snow covered mountains made the hike well worth it. On the way down we saw a bear way down the hillside taking a nap, or we saw a dark lump at least. The trail was fairly busy but that was expected. We had to park in the overflow lot about .25 miles away from the trail head, but there is a trail connecting the two. If you are near Port Angeles it is definitely worth the drive at least up to the Hurricane Ridge visitor center, even if you don't have time to do the hike.
