I didn't do this hike yesterday, but this site wouldn't let me post this comment without entering data as if I did.

Other - by jspencer830 Saturday, July 10, 2010
No portrait for jspencer830 Green Mountain, nice view from the top, but only a small place to see it from....no views the remainder of the trail. Nice hike, a little steep at times but nothing bad at all. If you have dogs be sure to leash them as it is a popular area for horseback riding

Camp Muir - by larryjaquish Saturday, July 10, 2010
Portrait for larryjaquish I did Camp Muir for the first time on Saturday July 10 the conditions were ideal, no wind, and light clouds early, clearing to beautiful sunny skies. Snow on the trail all the way. Paradise to Pebble creek is all up but not bad at all from Pebble creek to Muir the elevation gain is greater so worked a little more. This was my first hike at this altitude and I had to slow considerable above 8000 feet from the effect if I had done this hike at 35 rather than 55 it probably would have been a little easier. The views all the way are amazing. I missed a few spots with the sun screen and got a few burns I can't emphasize enough, SPF 50 or higher and reapply several times. I have read many...

Mount Si - by freespirit444 Saturday, July 10, 2010
Portrait for freespirit444 Went the 4 and then attempted Haystack. My 16 year old son went all the way up and loved the accomplishment. I went a 3rd of the way up and worried about the decent so stopped and went down which was hard but not as hard as I thought. Si is not for the beginner (unless going real slow) or the faint of heart. HAYSTACK is for the confident but not overconfiident thus foolish person. Loved the day. Loved the workout!!!!!!!

Skookum Falls - by joypoy Saturday, July 10, 2010
Portrait for joypoy Awesome day!
This is an easy hike and there is something for everyone!
Old growth trees, the White river and two falls.
You can see the falls from the main trail or hike up to bottom of the falls and enjoy the spray. The final leg to the top/bottom is a bit steep and the ground is loose in places but worth the trip.
Do not forget your National Forest parking pass.

Camp Muir - by snowlover Saturday, July 10, 2010
Portrait for snowlover Did Camp Muir for the 2nd time in two weeks. First time was misery. Mostly the effects of altitude. This time I ate on my way to Paradise, took lots of treats that I knew I would enjoy eating, took some Crystal light to put in my water bottle occasionally, and just plain ate at each break.

Got to Muir, a little tired, but feeling great. Fired up the stove, boiled water, made some lunch, put some boiled water in for the hike down. Glissaded much more this time and a couple of times, got going quite fast.

Overall, excellant day, used lots of sunscreen and have no ached today, except the small spon on the back of my leg that I missed with sunscreen.

Mailbox Peak - by seanb Saturday, July 10, 2010
No portrait for seanb Not sure if this is a brutal hike, but it is definately good cardio. Three reccomendations: 1) Go on a day when it is projected to be clear weather so that you can take in all the views, 2) To avoid crowds, get an early start, and 3) bring DEET.

I've left at 6:30 and 7am before, and both times I have come across 1 maybe 2 people on the way up. Your trip back down is when you will come across others. Trip time for me was 2 hr 15 min up, and 2 hr 30 min down. I have to go slower down due to 48 year old knees. MOST IMPORTANT: bring bug repellant. The bugs up in the clearing, and at top, and blood suckers. There are a lot of them too. Might consider a long sleeve and pants as an option...
