No portrait for blossom Ape Canyon and Fields of Abraham Mt. St. Helens
Trail was very busy with mountain bikers. The first 5.5 miles follows a steady incline. We spent a lot of time dodging bikers flying down the trail. The trail is very narrow at places with little room to move aside. The weather was beautiful.

No portrait for jspencer830 Harmony Trail, Mt St Helens...Beautiful views, amazing pictures however save this hike for a nice cool morning as there is no shade along the trail and the pumice plain heats up real quick

Mount Fremont Lookout - by freespirit444 Saturday, July 24, 2010
Portrait for freespirit444 This was an awesome, perfectly clear day for this hike. I read different hike reports and heard it was 5 miles and 6 miles. The markers up at Sunrise indicate it is 2.2 miles from the visitor center to the Mount Fremont Trailhead and then another 1.3 miles to the lookout (which is super awesome by the way)! The climb is steady but up and very rocky at the end. Drop offs to the side but little man (7) wasn't even a worry. Younger and you may want to hold a hand! The views from the very beginning ot the hike were awsome but once you got to Frozen Lake they were spectacular at every angle!!!! The lookout was super awsome (did I mention that?) and the views from the lookout were amazi...

Franklin Falls - by nathanotn Saturday, July 24, 2010
No portrait for nathanotn Wonderful waterfall with a unique setting underneath and between the interstate. The viewing area at the end can be a bit of a clustered mess on a busy day.

Mount Forgotten Meadows - by janinebur Saturday, July 24, 2010
No portrait for janinebur Saturday July 24 we ascended Mt. Forgotten, day was hot, began at 9:30 am at the Mt. Dickerman parking lot (which adds 1.3 miles to the hike). Arrived at Forgotten meadows at 1 pm. Was slow going, trail was in good shape and streams, Perry Creek were easy to cross with low water flow. Snow was found at the meadows but the boot path that lead you up the scramble to the top had a few patches of snow. Views at the top were beautiful.

Mount Townsend - by glennamy Saturday, July 24, 2010
No portrait for glennamy Excellent hike with fantastic views. It's a very steady and steep trail. About 3 of the 4 miles is 20% grade. It's also a 3000 foot elevation change. We could see downtown Seattle, most of the tall mountains, and Vancouver Island. If you're looking for a birds-eye view, this hike is for you.

Drive from hwy 101 is mixture of dirt and pavement (mostly paved). Pavement has a number of holes and dips, keep your speed down to avoid surprises. Parking is a bit limited, you may add up to a half mile to your day if you arrive late.

Granite Mountain - by snowlover Saturday, July 24, 2010
Portrait for snowlover Great hike, Great day. It was more of a challenge than I expected with my 40+ lb pack. It was harder on my old knees than Camp Muir 2 weeks ago. Great Views and trail nearly clear. Some snow in the small valley just east of the lookout. There were several ladies from a group of cancer survivors hiking today which was the same group that hiked Muir when I did 2 weeks ago. There also was a marriage proposal. The guys friends hike up before them, left a well stocked picnic, complete with wine, then left before the couple got there. She said Yes. :)

Margaret Lake - by bobby123 Thursday, July 22, 2010
No portrait for bobby123 Amazing trail!!!! great view once you start to gain elevation once you reach peak and start to head down to the lake. There was large patches of snow but luckily someone else had been there earlier that day and we could see there foot prints through the snow. the small little lake had gotten flooded by all the snow. we navigated are way around the small lake. We then were able to find the trail all the way to the lake. the lake was good size and was very beautiful. we had to leave soon because the clouds were lowering. I loved the hike alot but always be ready for rain or even snow!

Portrait for snowlover Holder Knob via Holder Ridge - Taylor Mtn park

A favorite simple exercise route. This time with 45 pounds in my backpack. About a 2.2 mile loop. You gain 400 ft, lose 300, then gain 600 for a total of 1000 ft in about 2 miles. Tons of flowers, but today it should be renamed Garter Snake trail. Saw a couple of dozen and heard many more slithering away. Not a snake fan myself.
