Portrait for craftlogix Carbon River Canyon, from Ranger station. Beautiful, easy hike (this is a 1 of 5 all the way to Ipsuit Falls). First walk of the season. This is a nice way to break in the new pair of boots, kids, novice hiker or just an easy getaway. The day was perfect, cool but not cold with broken sun through the trees and little other traffic on the trails. All foot bridges currently in and passable. No wildlife sightings to speak of, some nice tracks if you look... deer, marmot, cougar and bear down along the carbon. In the Ipsuit Falls area, just rounding the corner, the ambient temp drops 15 degrees from glacial influence, you'll need the fleece to stay here a minute. Chenuis Falls is freakin ama...

Lake 22 - by dreamlessleep Saturday, May 15, 2010
Portrait for dreamlessleep Gorgeous day for a hike, and it seemed many others thought the same. Popular & busy hike, so if you are looking for solitude, this isn't the place for you. We certainly could have done without the group of boys in their late teens swimming in the lake, lounging across the boardwalk skirting the lake, and generally making a nuisance of themselves. The view was beautiful, and the crystal clear lake still partially frozen would have had a serene effect if not for the boys. The terrain is a bit vexing for small dog paws, yet if your pooch is trail ready, it is well worth it.

Other - by mosspatch Tuesday, May 11, 2010
No portrait for mosspatch Crested Lord Hill with my patrol of 11 year old scouts, then made the Temple Pond Loop, for a total of about 5 miles. Had fun with plant and animal identification, and all the way stressed to the boys the importance of our natural environment, and how blessed we are to live in such a diverse collection of ecological systems.

*On a funny note, we spent a little to long on the hike and got locked in the park. We had to knock on the door of a local who lived on one of the private streets in the park boundaries. He was very understanding, and let us know this wasnt the first time he had unlocked the gate for hikers who cant keep track of the time!*

Tunnel Creek - by ErikSoderquist Tuesday, May 11, 2010
Portrait for ErikSoderquist We got to the trail head at about 12:30pm. The road up to the trail head was in great condition other then the occasional rocks that have fell onto the roadway from up above. They were easy enough to steer around. It was nice and sunny by the time we started the hike. There is a washout about 100 feet up the trail but it is fairly easy to pass with caution. If you fell it would suck but as long as you check your footing and don't lose your balance it is fine to pass.

The conditions of the trail are real good about half way up. There is a downed tree you have to navigate around on the trail. Lots of up hill hiking so be prepared. About half way you start to get patches of left over sn...

Wallace Falls - by mrwall Sunday, May 09, 2010
No portrait for mrwall Nice hike, lots of great scenery, go early to avoid the crowds! Made it up to the picnic area took a few pictures of the falls, walked farther up to the bottom of the next big Hill climb. For an overweight hiker it was a little harder than i expected, but definately worth it. took me a little over an hour to the picnic area.

Greenwater Lakes - by zachzimm Friday, May 07, 2010
Portrait for zachzimm I actually hike up to Echo Lake. The trail was great even though there was snow on the last two miles. Luckily I was able to make it through the snow and keep a really good pace going. The Greenwater lakes were gorgeous. I can't wait to go back up and camp out at Echo Lake or Lost Lake in a few more weeks. Kids would love this hike to Greenwater Lakes since there are so many bridges going over the river.
