Mount Townsend - by glennamy Saturday, July 24, 2010
Excellent hike with fantastic views. It's a very steady and steep trail. About 3 of the 4 miles is 20% grade. It's also a 3000 foot elevation change. We could see downtown Seattle, most of the tall mountains, and Vancouver Island. If you're looking for a birds-eye view, this hike is for you. Drive from hwy 101 is mixture of dirt and pavement (mostly paved). Pavement has a number of holes and dips, keep your speed down to avoid surprises. Parking is a bit limited, you may add up to a half mile to your day if you arrive late.
