Several friends and I almost went to Leavenworth to avoid the rain for today's hike, but we are true PNW kids so we roughed it out up to Bridal Falls and Lake Serene. The first 2 miles are like walking on a old logging road through the lower portion of the creek-bed. Then at 2 miles the trail splits, right to the falls and left to the lake. We had plenty of time for both today. 1/2 mile hike from the split to get to the falls viewing area. Prepare to get wet, you cross the creek several times before the end and when you get to the top the falls is really going right now. The trail to the lake only had one difficult cross of the creek and then about 1.5 miles of switchbacks and a .5...

A nice sunday hike, but at this time of year is not just a stroll in the woods. The constant snow starts about half way there. There is a nice beaten path on the snow for about a mile, then that dissapeared. But not to worry, the trail has been recently marked with marker tape, and plenty of it. The snow is very firm, we took snowshoes but never used them and did not post-hole. Micro spikes or something for traction would be helpfull on the way down. The lake is still covered in plenty of snow, and looks ...

I had never done this hike before, and since I went hiking yesterday and the weather was awful I wanted some redemption. I drove to Index and got a NW Forest Service pass for $30 (it covers the whole year) I then hit the trail with my dog. Only a handful of cars in the parking lot so I knew the top wouldn't be crowded. Short and sweet is all I can say about the trail. You go up and up and up for about a mile, then it flattens out for another 1/2 mile until you pop out at the top. Climbed the old lookout tower (which was quite steep) and took in the views, snapped a couple of photos, and headed back to the car.
